As one of the fastest growing counties in Indiana, it’s imperative we look at offsetting the booming increase in residential development with commercial business growth.

Attracting business growth is a great challenge with adjacent counties often competing for the same industries. Our Boone County Economic Development Commission continues to do a great job bringing new business to the I65 corridor. Zionsville’s Economic Development team has welcomed new businesses to Creekside Park, with plans for an estimated $250 million investment in the South Village development that will include commercial and retail business locations.

Charting the future for this growth calls for the Commissioners and the County Council to continue working together to make smart decisions based on solid planning. The Boone County Council is currently involved in a strategic financial plan addressing budgeting. The recent Facility Needs Study was a crucial part of that planning effort; to give us all a snapshot look at a variety of potential scenarios for our County’s future.

The Council’s strategic financial plan together with the Commissioners’ comprehensive plan for Boone County will give us a road map for deciding what’s best when it comes to economic development growth – with the important goal of reducing the tax burden on residential property owners.

Past and current proactive planning on the part of the commissioners and council is what has kept our county property tax rates low in Boone County.
