Did you know the Boone County Commissioners are in charge of maintenance and replacement of all bridges on all local county roads? This includes bridges within city and town limits.
There have been three bridge projects within the Town of Zionsville which have recently been updated. The bridges on Sycamore Street and Zionsville Road that cross over Eagle Creek and the new bridge on Templin Road.
Each of these roads carry a great deal of the heavy traffic through Zionsville. Now much safer and way more pleasant to drive across, these bridges also represent a great partnership between the Boone County Commissioners and Town of Zionsville officials and their Street Department.
Boone County Bridge Maintenance
Boone County has 194 structures that are considered bridges that are the maintenance responsibility of the County Roads Department. A structure is considered a bridge if it is over 20 feet in length. We also have 313 small structures of lesser length. Since 2015 we 12 of the small structures have been replaced along with 21 large structures which have been rebuilt or replaced. Six Boone County bridges have been rehabilitated.
Payment for these projects comes from a combination of local designated funds, federal funds and Community Crossings Grant Funding to stretch our local dollars as far as possible and give the taxpayer the most results for their money.
